HI! I’m Jimi Kumu a’o ‘oe, AKA, Jamie Fraser. I have been playing guitar over three decades and ukulele for the past five years. I’ve played in a number of different bands spanning many musical styles. From blues to rock, funk to swing, jazz to contemporary Christian and solo guitar.
My most recent projects and bands include Trimmed and Burnin’ Blues Band with Shannon Coberly; lead and rhythm guitarist for Taryn Cross; Jimi Liberty combo featuring Cheryl Jewell; guitarist for Swing Connection big band; lead and rhythm guitarist for team one worship band at CTK church, Bellingham, lead and rhythm guitarist for Bellingham Covenant Church and ukulele player and vocalist for the duo Paraclete.
I began my adventure with music many moons ago playing bass. I switched to guitar to allow a fellow housemate the opportunity to take up the bass position in my band.
Over the years my passion for music led to personal recording projects and a desire to learn different instruments. On a whim I gave myself a tenor ukulele for Christmas, 2004. Since then my enthusiasm for ukulele and guitar have inspired me to offer my teaching abilities again. I taught guitar for several years but stopped due to career changes and time constraints.
I’m currently accepting students from beginning to advanced on both the ukulele and guitar. My lesson fee is $15.00 per half hour.
Many folks ask “will my playing improve faster with private lessons?” The short answer is YES! Having a qualified teacher show you the “tricks and treats” is the best way to learn. As well, personal attention is always a good motivator.
